Pitch count rules by league

How pitch count limits and rest days work in youth baseball, and how to track them without a notebook.

Always use your league's current rulebook. Limits differ between Little League, travel organizations and high school associations, and they change. The figures below are Little League Baseball's published regular-season limits, given as an example.

Daily maximum by age (Little League Baseball): 7-8: 50 pitches; 9-10: 75; 11-12: 85; 13-16: 95; 17-18: 105.

Required rest for ages 14 and under: 66 or more pitches, 4 calendar days; 51-65, 3 days; 36-50, 2 days; 21-35, 1 day; 1-20, no rest required.

Good habits.

  1. Count every pitch, including those to a batter who is still at bat when the limit is reached (most rules let the pitcher finish that batter).
  2. Record the count the same day, with the opposing team's confirmation if your league requires it.
  3. Before each game, check who is eligible to pitch, not just who pitched last time.

SportEscudo records pitch counts per game and shows each pitcher's eligibility under your league's rules.
